Your responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
Designing and implementing scalable data architectures on GCP, primarily using BigQuery and Cloud Composer.
Developing and maintaining reliable, recoverable ELT/ETL pipelines.
Building analytics-ready data models with dbt, including staging, warehouse and mart layers.
Implementing data documentation, testing and quality checks.
Setting up and maintaining CI/CD processes with GitLab, including quality gates and promotion across environments.
Managing cloud infrastructure with Terraform, including cloud resources, IAM permissions and relevant networking dependencies.
Developing Python components for data ingestion, orchestration, data quality checks and automation.
Taking ownership of production operations, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, cost management and performance optimisation.
Working closely with Analytics Engineers, AI Engineers and business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust data products.
Technical environment
GCP: BigQuery, IAM, Cloud Composer and Airflow
dbt: dbt Core, packages, macros, tests, documentation and exposures
GitLab: merge requests, branching strategies, CI/CD pipelines, runners and secrets management
Terraform: modules, workspaces, environments and state management
Python: data pipelines, APIs, automation and testing
SQL: data modelling, performance tuning, partitioning, clustering and cost optimisation
Your profile
You have:
Proven experience delivering data engineering solutions on GCP, particularly with BigQuery and related services.
Strong SQL skills, including data modelling, performance optimisation, partitioning and clustering.
Solid experience with dbt, including project structure, macros, tests, documentation and deployment practices.
Experience with an orchestration tool such as Airflow, Cloud Composer, Dagster or Prefect.
Experience with GitLab CI/CD and Git-based collaboration, including code reviews, branching strategies and releases.
Practical experience with Terraform, including writing or using modules and managing multiple environments.
A good understanding of IAM principles, least-privilege access, group-based permissions and service accounts.
Good command of Python, with an emphasis on clean code, basic packaging, testing and API integration.
A strong production mindset, with a focus on observability, reliability, security and maintainability.
Nice to have
